Our Staff

At Cornelius Early Scholars, we pride ourselves on having a team of highly qualified and dedicated teachers. Our teachers are passionate about providing a fun, nurturing, and educational environment for your child. We believe that every child deserve a solid foundation to their early childhood education, regardless of their financial situation. Our nonprofit scholarship Christian preschool is committed to providing children with the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and supportive environment.

Preschool Director

Margy Nance

My name is Margy Nance. I am a native of Mooresville, NC. I have 4 grown sons, 3 former military and the oldest and his wife Kate holding Navy careers. My husband Shawn and I have been married since 1997 and we love our long time home here in the old town part of Mooresville. I have 19 years of experience in Early Childhood education with 11 years of directing a local weekday preschool. Sharing God’s love to young children and preparing them for kindergarten is my passion. I’m thrilled to be a part of this amazing opportunity to help implement the vision of empowering preschool age children from all backgrounds to receive the tools, resources, and love they need to succeed not only in their educational journey but also throughout life.

Kim Hobbs

I am Kim Hobbs and I am so excited to be a part of Cornelius Early Scholars. I have over 25 years of experience in early childhood education. I graduated from Virginia Intermont College with a degree in Education. I am licensed to teach birth through fifth grade. Most recently, I taught kindergarten for Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools.

I have two grown children (plus one in heaven) and 6 grandchildren. I enjoy all things creative, traveling, and spending time at the beach collecting seashells. I am a member of Life Fellowship Church.

I look forward to working with students and families giving them a strong base, both academically and faith-filled, to begin their educational journey.

Klaire Thompson

My name is Klaire Thompson. I am a native New Yorker, and I have been living in Charlotte, NC
for over 20 years. While living in New York, I worked as a computer operator for over 25 years.

After relocating to Charlotte, I fulfilled a dream and became a Teaching Assistant to my favorite grade; kindergarten. I worked with children in the Mecklenburg School System. I truly loved it and felt it was what I was meant to do, until retiring in 2016.

Upon retiring, I decided to spend time doing another thing I had always wanted to do. I started my own business sewing. My business took off. I sold homemade items to customers at festivals all over Charlotte, NC and South Carolina.

Now, after seven years of sewing and selling, I’m ready to do something new again. I’m going back to my first love; teaching. I was just hired to work for Cornelius Early Scholars in

Cornelius, NC. I am so thrilled and excited to be a part of this wonderful program for 3 and 4 year old children. I am an educator and a Christian with a clear lifelong goal. To Serve Others

Carrie Hanes

My name is Carrie Hanes. I will be assisting in the classrooms this year, but mainly in the 3 year old room. I have 2 sons (ages 14 and 7) who keep me quite busy.

I have worked with children for many years, and a variety of ages. I enjoy watching them learn about and explore the world around them. Most recently, I have been a working with 2 year olds. There is no greater joy than seeing a child gain self-confidence.

I am excited to also be the Creative Movement instructor for the children as well. I danced for over 10 years at studios in Charlotte, and have taught dance on and off for the past 6 years. Through movement, my goal is to help the children to gain awareness of their surroundings and to express themselves in nonverbal ways—plus have fun!
